February 4th is my older sister's birthday. As we are from Kentucky, it doesn't surprise me that my sister has begun to foster the desire to own a teacup piglet. According to her, it's a very chic southern pet and, apparently (according to articles googled about these animals), teacup piglets are very smart and quite affectionate,
Since I would not be there for her birthday, I decided to make her a card in support of her pet wishes.

Monster Printmaking Class
Last Saturday, my friend and fellow artist Seth Caplan asked if I wanted to join him in teaching a printmaking class to children from the Bushwick area at the local library. We would be reading Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak and drawing our own monsters to be made into prints.
Monsters? Printmaking? I'm there
The class went great! There's no beating Sendak's illustrations-- the full bleed pages without any copy are particularly powerful-- and the printmaking was imaginative and fun-messy. We make linocuts using styrofoam, pencils, ink and a brayer. Check out the great job below (including my own monster rendition):
Here is my two headed monster with heads respectively named Lars and Franchesca:
Unfortunately I forgot that you have to cut the words in backwards on the plate so that they will print properly in the final image... it's been a little while since my last printmaking class. But all-in-all, it was a great success! <3 br="">3>

Valentine's Day Prints
These are prints I made for friends on Valentines day. I experimented with several different colors to see what arrangement I liked best. Some of the hearts are hand colored in watercolor
